Ok. So I’m doing this detox thingy, you know…and I’ve got sweet news. I’ve lost 6 lbs. in 6 days! I feel amazing. I went to spin class today and sweated like…well…a lot. It was gross. I worked SO hard for one single reason. Cup Cakes. Yep. Not just any cup cake. The BEST cup cakes in the history of all cup cakes.
We all can agree that cake is an amazing thing. But cup cakes, they’re your own tiny little plateful of joy. Definitely in a league of their own. They are a perfect mix of cake that is…um…some folks would say moist. I don’t use that word. It’s an awful word. (sorry for it’s use in this post) What should we call the cake? How about humid? Ok, a good cup cake is the perfect mix of humid cake and frosting. The cake part must not be too short, not too tall either. Say…2 inches of cake. Frosting. Butter Cream! I could bathe in this sweet goodness. The butter cream part must be taller than the humid cake part. So tall that you can’t bite it. Like three and a half inches or something. Well, such a cupcake exists. I found the world’s most perfect little heavenly cupcakes at a place called Dulce Desserts near Music Row in Nashville.
My sister is visiting this week from Milwaukee and insisted that we drink Bubble Tea and eat Cup Cakes from Dulce. I knew that this was the one thing I was gonna let slide during my little detox. I thought to myself “what’s one cup cake? anyways, the butter is all natural” (yes, I think in lowercase…cool, right?)
Too bad Dulce was baking a hazelnut cake with hazelnut frosting. You know how the baker has to shave off the top of the cake so that it’s level and smooth? Well, that’s what she was doing when we arrived. She had cake shavings and extra frosting…and gave us a couple samples of it. AMAZING! Best thing I’ve ever tried…hoping it’s a cup cake of the month soon! We also were given these little chocolate cookies that were full of love and happiness. Of course, we HAD to buy the turtle-shaped sugar cookies too. They looked so cute and lonely! Notice I haven’t even talked about the cup cakes yet?
I intended on eating one cup cake. Probably 600 or so calories. Bad but hey, I’m detoxing…no worries. I’m back eating yardwork tomorrow, so whatever. Problem is…samples from the lovely baker, cookies of love, turtle cookies and 6 cupcakes and $23 later I’m looking at Rebekah (sister) and wondering how I had slipped into this deep, wonderful dilema. Now, I didn’t eat all 6 cup cakes. Rebekah had one. I brought a couple home for Amy to try. I ate like…2 and a half…er something. Maybe three. Plus a chocolate cookie. And one of those turtle guys. Oh yeah…and the samples. Dang it! All I wanted to do was eat one cup cake. It’s a slow fade, friends. One lustful glance at the hazelnut butter cream was all it took to send me into a frenzy. I’ve got a problem. I think I’m running to Texas tomorrow. That’ll burn off those extra calories.
P.S. I really did just tag this post with the word “moist”.Filed under: Food | Tagged: Cup Cakes, Dulce Desserts, Josh Lauritch, Moist, Music Row, Nashville

1. You just dedicated a whole post to cupcakes….I’m just saying…
2. I know other people who can’t say that “M” word. ha!
3. I was to eat a cupcake now.
4. Where else can I learn about this detox thingy?
Praise the Lord I’m not alone. I’ve been doing SO good with my juicing and not-eating-crap plan. And then last night my awesome-chef-of-a-husband decided to make homemade oatmeal cookies. From scratch. The house smelled like a Yankee Candle – only the smell was real. Too real. I ate one or two…and saw my slow fade beginning.
I immediatly put said cookies in a ziplock bag and brought them to work this morning and set them on the front desk. Happy co-workers now, and I still fit in my jeans. Only problem: text from Joel that read: Where the heck are my cookies?
[...] Josh was at Whole Foods with his wife last weekend…buying cupcakes. Yeah…he’s a cupcake guy. Really not sure what else to say about that. To make up for it he grabbed a Make Your Own” 6 [...]
I am a cupcake guy too. Don’t feel bad. I dragged Alice all over Chicago to try every place we could find. We’ll have to visit you in Nashville and try these because there was something missing at all of the Chicago places. No perferct cupcake.
Juanita at Dulce is THE BEST. She did our wedding cake, and we got so many compliments on that thing. Plus we got little samples every time we went in for tastings or whatever.
