“In my best dress…fearless”

I realize that she’s 18 and adored by little girls everywhere. I realize that her songs are about broken hearts and the boys who break them. And I don’t care. I love great songs and these are. I love songs that come from the heart and that’s how Taylor writes.

To those “industry” folks that dog her…I agree. She’s not the most amazing guitar player or vocalist. There are many artists that have more talent. There aren’t many, however, that connect with fans better than Taylor…and that’s probably why she’s sold 3.5 million records. She’s personable, funny, quirky and completely honest. She also interacts with fans on a level where you feel like you know her. She’s built up quite a tribe of folks who will be fans for a long time. Myself included.

Also to out-of-touch, toocoolfortheroom, “industry” people who cannot accept that people love Taylor (along with Daughtry, Nickelback and other uncool bands) let me remind you…you can’t afford to make artistically brilliant, credible music if nobody wants to buy it. I don’t care if the band wears girl-jeans and looks like a bunch of pirates. Normal people don’t like that crap and don’t buy it.

Ok…enough ranting. Back to Taylor.

The new album is Fearless. It released today and it’s the $3.99 download at amazon.com…and it’s SO good! I’m not ashamed that I like her. I will own it. I am a fan. I am fearless.

  1. I agree man, picked it up today at Amazon, love it.

  2. Joshy – why so many disclaimers about liking Taylor Swift? No one is mad at you for liking pop music. Of course her music works because of all the things you mentioned above. Leave the bitterness at the door for all the A&R types that you’ve run across that want to make a ‘cool record’. “Cool” records actually do sell — lots of people buy them.

Kings of Leon – 28 million
Snow Patrol – over 7 million
    The Offspring – 6 million
    Plain White T’s – over 4 million
The Arctic Monkeys – over 4 million

I’m just sayin… don’ t bust all the toocoolfortheroom, “industry” people!

  3. I heart Taylor!

  4. Well, my initial thoughts on the Taylor record were this: http://twitter.com/burnshead/status/1003010040

But I’ve only listened to it once, and I really enjoyed the first record. On your recommendation I’ll give it another spin.

BUT good analysis on the front end there. And certainly enjoyed the Tribes reference. I knew there was a reason I liked you.

  5. Being a Taylor fan as well – did you like her AMA performance? The one about “I’m not a princess, this ain’t Hollywood, la la la” I thought it was great. I’m an almost-28-year-old chick hangin’ on the couch with my husband screaming at my TV going “In your face, Joe Jonas!”
